5 Seasons Of PPM Hockey - Part 2: Home and Away Stats

This is a followup to my previous post talking about match data from the past 5 seasons of PPM Hockey and the Brisbane Stars (my team).

This post originally started out as a collection of my teams OTR over the seasons so I could create a graph depicting how the OTR growth has increased. Like any other group of stats in my posession, it kind of just grew into something much larger.

Instead, so what we have here now is my teams entire history of wins, losses and draws, as well as goals for, goals against, OTR Gains and also a few dandy shootout and overtime stats.

Note: This information includes ALL my teams games from day 1, season 1.

Part 1: OTR Data Graph

As you can see, the OTR has a steady increase, even with the seasonal decrease in OTR. This last season has been my most successful as far as OTR goes.

Part 2: Total Game Data

I think the biggest thing that actually shocked me was the overall success my team has had since season 1. Almost 65% of my games end in victory, and that jumps up to and over 70% for Playoff and National Cup games. My team it seems make it count when it matters most.

Part 4: Away Game Data

Home Ice Advantage... as you can see, the difference between my home and away games is remarkable! On average between 5 and 10% increase in victory for home games (on average), although the friendly games seem to buck that trend a little. Saying that, I do tend to play a lot of friendlies against far tougher opponents.

The home ice advantage shows up in the Goals For (average) columns however. Across all types of games my team scores more at home.

Interestingly, I am more successful in road overtime games than at home. Go figure.

Part 7: Summary

The thing that jumped out at me the most when doing this was the home ice advantage. There is a clear and precise increase in success when playing at home and it shows up in both win% and also goals for. The biggest disappointment in these stats... my overtime and shootout record is absolutely terrible.
